Karl and Lisa - Ballygally Castle Hotel - North Coast of Northern Ireland
“Video is really important to us. You’re the expert, we’ll just go with the flow on the day!”.
This was Karl and Lisa said before I filmed their Ballygally Castle wedding .
Set on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, Ballygally Castle and Hotel is a popular place for weddings not only for its incredible location, but the character and style of the Castle as part of the building itself.
Together for over 10 years having met through friends, Karl and Lisa are two people that are completely on the same wavelength as each other. This was evident in the way that they were both so relaxed about the details of their wedding. Nothing was a hassle, and in fact on the day someone’s mum (no names mentioned!) was the one who was stressing, whilst Lisa just enjoyed that special time with her 4 bridesmaids.
Living not too far from Ballygally Castle, their friends and family all attended for a great day. Lisa spent the night before in the bridal suite, and Karl went to his mum’s to get ready after a huge fry with his groomsmen!
The weather in the morning looked as if it wasn’t going to be kind, but then suddenly broke into glorious sunshine. Together with Mark Barnes, Wedding Photographer, I was hoping for a fully outdoor venue, but the bride and groom chose to play it safe and get the best of both worlds, with the Ballygally Castle purpose built garden ceremony room. Not only does this room let in oodles of natural light (always great for wedding videography), but it’s laid out in the perfect way for guests to see and hear the ceremony. With its long garden walk it made for a great entrance for the stunning Lisa, who chose her dress from LA Bridal, Carrickfergus.
Karl donned himself and his groomsmen in suits from Freddie Hatchet, Belfast.
Floral arrangements were stunning, as provided by David McConkey Floral Couture.
The ceremony, drinks reception, and dinner were all in the one place, which is always handy for guests and vendors.
Around midday it started to rain, but thankfully after family shots and portraits of the couples.
I was able to film with the stunning grounds and garden as my backdrop, and towards the end of the night we took the couple to the beach (just a short walk) for some intimate shots of the two of them.
Quite possibly one of the most relaxed weddings I’ve filmed this year, everyone had a blast and I’m already looking forward to my next wedding at Ballygally Castle.
Lisa watched her video with her bridesmaids and mum, and to quote her: “We were all in tears through the whole video!”.
