A Sneak Peek Into The World Of A Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer
Wedding Videography Experience - Adam White Wedding Films
I've written a little about myself on my 'about me' page, but I want this post to elaborate on what it’s like behind the scenes of a Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer and give you a sneek peek into the world of a Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer.
In short I've had a video camera in my hand since I was 12. You know those VLOG style videos that rose to popularity around 2018? Well I was out filming with my friends before 2008.
Having worked for a number of wedding videographers as their 'second shooter', I decided that I'd built up both the experience, skills, and hunger to go out on my own name and build a team around me who could realise my vision for the future of wedding videography in Northern Ireland.
Don't get me wrong, being a wedding videographer has it's challenges, and I've discussed them at length in this article, but I've finally found something that I'm truly passionate about - and the results show!

Finding the Right Videographer for Your Wedding
Choosing the right wedding videographer for your wedding album on your special day is crucial to ensure that your love story is captured beautifully and authentically. For more on this see my post: What Goes into Creating a Wedding Video: Insights from a Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer.
Here are five top tips to help you select the perfect wedding videographer:
Define Your Style and Vision:
Start by determining the style and vision you have for your wedding video. Do you prefer a cinematic, documentary, or storytelling approach?
Are you drawn to vibrant and energetic edits or a more romantic and dreamy aesthetic?
Understanding your preferences will help you find a videographer whose style aligns with your vision, ensuring that their work resonates with your personal taste.
I have not only my wedding videos, but also a write up of each couple's day on my Love Stories page, and I offer a number of styles for you to choose from.
Review Portfolios and Previous Work:
Take the time to thoroughly review the portfolios and previous work of potential wedding videographers. Look for consistency in their storytelling, cinematography, and editing. Pay attention to the overall quality of their work, attention to detail, and their ability to capture genuine emotions.
This will give you a good sense of their artistic skills and ensure that their style matches your expectations.
Check Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews and testimonials from previous clients to gain insights into the wedding videographer's professionalism, reliability, and customer service.
Positive feedback and recommendations can provide reassurance about the videographer's ability to deliver exceptional results and provide a positive experience. Look for testimonials that highlight the videographer's communication skills, responsiveness, and their ability to put couples at ease on their wedding day.
Meet and Connect:
Arrange in-person meetings or video calls with your shortlisted wedding videographers.
This will give you the opportunity to get to know them personally, discuss your wedding plans, and gauge their enthusiasm and passion for their work.
Building a rapport with your videographer is essential as it ensures a comfortable and trusting relationship, allowing them to capture intimate moments naturally.
As I've talked about before in my post that looks behind the scenes of a wedding videographer Northern Ireland, I love to meet my couples before their big day and feel that the first meeting is an important part of the process of ensuring the best possible wedding video, and to help you feel relaxed on the day perfectly.
Discuss Packages, Pricing, and Deliverables:
Discuss the wedding videographer's packages, pricing structure, and deliverables in detail.
Ensure that you have a clear understanding of what is included in each package, such as the number of hours of coverage, the length of the final video, and any additional services or extras.
Clarify the timeline for receiving the final product and any potential customization options.
Understanding these details will help you make an informed decision and avoid any surprises or misunderstandings.
By following these top tips, you'll be well on your way to finding the right wedding videographer who not only matches your style and vision but also provides a professional and enjoyable experience on your special day.
Remember to trust your instincts and select a videographer who genuinely understands and values the significance of capturing your amazing love story.
Ever wondered what it's like to work as a wedding videographer Northern Ireland? I've written about it before, but here's my breakdown to what happens before your special day.
The Process Before Filming Your Wedding Day
Initial Consultation:
The process often begins with an initial consultation, either in person or via video call. During this meeting, you will have the opportunity to discuss your vision, preferences, and specific requirements for the wedding video.
The videographer will ask questions to understand your expectations, wedding details, timeline, and any unique moments or traditions you want to be captured.
Contract and Booking:
Once you decide to proceed with a specific wedding videographer, they will provide you with a contract that outlines the services, deliverables, pricing, and terms and conditions. Upon agreement, you will typically sign the contract and provide a deposit to secure their services for your wedding day.
Pre-Wedding Planning:
In the weeks leading up to your wedding, the videographer will engage in pre-wedding planning. They may schedule follow-up meetings or calls to finalize the logistics, including the timeline, locations, and any specific shots or scenes you want to be included.
This allows the videographer to ensure they have a clear understanding of your wedding day schedule and can plan accordingly.
Shot List and Storyboarding:
Based on the discussions and your preferences, the videographer may create a shot list and storyboard.
This outlines the key moments, shots, and sequences they intend to capture during the wedding day.
Just like I’ve eluded to in The Creative Process of a Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer, the shot list helps ensure that no important moments are missed and serves as a guide for the videographer during the event.
Equipment Preparation:
A professional wedding videographer will ensure that their equipment is properly prepared and ready for the wedding day.
They will check and maintain their cameras, lenses, audio recording devices, stabilizers, and any other necessary gear.
This includes charging batteries, formatting memory cards, and bringing backup equipment to ensure they are well-equipped to capture your day.
Venue Visit and Rehearsal Attendance:
In some cases, the videographer may visit the wedding venue ahead of time to familiarize themselves with the layout, lighting conditions, and any specific challenges or opportunities it presents.
Additionally, they may attend the wedding rehearsal if requested or if they believe it will be beneficial to understand the ceremony flow and anticipate key moments.
Final Coordination:
In the days leading up to the wedding, the videographer may touch base with you or other vendors involved in your wedding to confirm any last-minute details, changes, or special requests.
This coordination helps ensure a smooth and synchronized approach among all involved parties.
What it's like on the day
No doubt you’ve read endless sites like https://weddingideasmag.telegraph.co.uk/15-top-tips-for-perfect-wedding-planning/. I've written about a day in the life of a Northern Ireland Wedding Videographer but here's a breakdown of what I do on the day.
Arriving and Set-up:
The videographer arrives at the designated location or locations, such as the bride's and groom's preparation venues or the ceremony site.
They set up their equipment, ensuring that cameras, audio devices, stabilizers, and other necessary gear are ready for use.
They also assess the lighting conditions and make any necessary adjustments or additions to ensure optimal video quality.
Capturing Preparations:
The videographer documents the pre-wedding preparations, which may include the bride and groom getting ready, applying makeup, getting dressed, and sharing special moments with their respective wedding parties.
They capture candid footage, details of the attire, accessories, and any meaningful interactions that occur during this time.
Filming the Ceremony:
The videographer focuses on capturing the ceremony from various angles and perspectives. They discreetly move around the venue, ensuring they capture essential moments such as the processional, exchange of vows, ring exchange, and the first kiss. They pay attention to the couple's emotions, reactions, and interactions, as well as the reactions of family and guests.
Documenting the Reception:
During the reception, the videographer captures key moments such as the entrance of the couple, toasts, speeches, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting, bouquet toss, and any other significant events. They aim to capture the energy, ambiance, and joyous atmosphere of the celebration, focusing on both the couple and the guests, especially if you’ve put thought into your first dance.
Interviewing and Guest Interactions:
Some videographers may conduct interviews or interactions with guests throughout the day. They may ask guests to share their well-wishes for the couple, advice, or anecdotes. These interactions add a personal touch to the wedding video and provide additional perspectives and insights into the couple's relationship.
Capturing Candid Moments:
A skilled wedding videographer is always on the lookout for candid and emotional moments that occur naturally during the day. They capture reactions, laughter, tears, hugs, and other spontaneous interactions that reflect the genuine emotions and connections shared by the couple and their loved ones.
Coordinating with the Photographer and Other Vendors:
The videographer works in harmony with the photographer and other vendors to ensure a seamless flow of capturing the wedding day. They communicate and coordinate to ensure they do not interfere with each other's shots, allowing both photography and videography to capture the desired moments effectively.
Ensuring Audio Quality:
The videographer pays careful attention to capturing high-quality audio. They may use discreet microphones or audio recording devices to capture clear vows, speeches, and other important audio elements.
They ensure that the audio is properly synchronized with the visuals to create a cohesive and immersive wedding video.
Adapting to the Schedule: A wedding day is dynamic and can have unexpected changes or delays.
A skilled videographer remains flexible and adaptable, adjusting their approach and schedule as necessary to capture the most significant moments and ensure they are in the right place at the right time.
It's not easy!
I have to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.
For me, the more effort that I put into preparation - specifically talking to my wedding couples and getting to know them - the easier my day will be.
I need to assess what drives them together as a couple. Are they purely fun? Have they been brought together by a certain passion or emotional event?
I need to question myself as to how exactly I can best represent the couple for their final edit - which means not only having the right equipment in place when I need it, but making sure that I'm interacting with the guests, bridal party, venue staff and more at your wedding.
