The Highs and the Lows
I’ve given more information about a day in the life of a wedding videographer Northern Ireland and what it’s like behind the scenes of a wedding videographer Northern Ireland.
There's a reason why a large number of wedding videographers in Northern Ireland burn out.
It's not just their foundational lack of passion.
I've seen a number of wedding videographers in Northern Ireland come into the industry for the wrong reasons. These people don't last.
Many of them start off by charging really low prices for each wedding video in the bid to gain more work and make more money, but this doesn't often end well.
It works out that they have far too many wedding videos to edit at one time, and with a mounting work load they struggle to look forward to each wedding day.
Wedding videography is generally tiring. You need to keep your energy levels high - and it's a complete disservice to wedding couples to not be passionate and energetic when approaching their wedding video.
For each wedding video, I need to get to know my couples on a personal level.
I need to know what they're going to be like on the day - do I need to make them more comfortable in front of the camera?
Do they need a little more directing, or can I just stand back and watch the day unfold full of love, fun and romance to capture those candid moments on the wedding date?
Each wedding day is different, so to approach each one in the same way - without the enthusiasm needed, isn't going to keep a wedding videographer in the game for very long.
The right approach to your wedding video
My year consists is broken down into three tasks:
Meeting couples.
The relationship with my couples is paramount.
I'd rather get paid my normal rate and enjoy the process with each couple, than get paid ten times the amount and not connect with my couple. It's that simple.
Filming wedding videos.
This is one of the best aspects of my job. I get to attend each wedding day with enthusiasm - for that wedding couple, it's their big day. It doesn't matter if it's the 7th wedding day I've been to that week - I have to be as passionate and enthusiastic in my wedding videography as possible. Thankfully, I'm an energetic person with a solid work ethic, and people say that this shows in my wedding films.
I get to work with incredible vendors such as your wedding photographer and see all the special moments unfold - it's such a joy.
Editing each wedding video.
Here's my general breakdown as to how I edit each wedding video:Editing a wedding film is a crucial step for a wedding videographer to transform raw footage into a polished and compelling final product that captures the essence of the couple's special day. Here is a general overview of how a wedding videographer typically approaches the editing process to create cinematic wedding films:
Footage Review and Selection: The videographer starts by reviewing all the footage captured during the wedding. They meticulously go through the clips, identifying the best moments, angles, and shots that reflect the emotions, highlights, and overall narrative of the wedding day. They create a selection of the most significant and visually appealing footage to form the foundation of the wedding film.
Storytelling and Structure: The videographer then establishes the narrative structure of the wedding film. They determine the sequence of events, such as the preparations, ceremony, speeches, and reception, to create a cohesive and engaging storyline. They aim to capture the progression of the day, the emotional arc, and the key moments that define the couple's journey.
Trimming and Arranging: In this phase, the videographer trims the selected clips to remove any unnecessary or repetitive content.
They focus on maintaining a dynamic pace and flow by arranging the clips in a logical order. Smooth transitions are implemented to ensure a seamless and visually appealing viewing experience.
Colour Correction and Enhancement: To enhance the visual aesthetics, the videographer applies colour correction and grading techniques.
They adjust the colours, contrast, and brightness to create a consistent and visually pleasing look throughout the film. This step helps to achieve the desired mood and atmosphere, whether it be a warm and romantic tone or a vibrant and energetic feel.
The best wedding videographers can do this extremely well.
Audio Editing: Audio plays a crucial role in a wedding film. The videographer carefully edits and mixes the audio elements, including dialogue, vows, speeches, and ambient sounds.
They may enhance the audio quality, remove background noise, and ensure that the audio is clear and balanced. Additionally, they may incorporate music selections that complement the mood and emotions of the film.
Transitions, Titles, and Effects: To add a polished touch, the videographer incorporates tasteful transitions between scenes, such as crossfades or cuts, to maintain the flow and coherence of the film.
They may also add titles, captions, or subtitles to introduce sections or highlight significant moments. Special effects, if desired, can be applied sparingly to enhance certain scenes or add a creative touch.
Soundtrack Selection: Choosing the right music is crucial in evoking the desired emotions and enhancing the overall impact of the wedding film.

Personally speaking (and wedding photographers tend to agree) - wedding videos are harder to process and deliver than wedding photographs.
